ADMISSIONS

Welcome to CJCPCS !

We hope to make the enrollment process as easy as possible for both students and parents. We are available to answer all of your questions.

Admission is open to all interested applicants in grades K-1(lower school), without regard to sex, race, color, creed, or national origin. Admission is also open to any student, regardless of intellectual or athletic ability, level of achievement or aptitude, status as a handicapped person, proficiency in the English language, or any other discriminatory basis.

PRIORITY: First priority for enrollment will be given to students who are residents of Somerset, North Brunswick, and New Brunswick. If there are spaces open at the completion of the initial recruitment period, non-resident students will be eligible for enrollment. “Resident student” means a student who resides in the area served by the district board of education that is the same as the district of residence of the charter school.

Enrollment priority will be given to siblings of a student enrolled in the CJCPCS. A sibling is defined as a child who has at least one parent/legal guardian in common with another child. If there are more applications for admission than available spaces, a random process in the form of a lottery will be used to determine admission.

The lottery drawing will be held publicly and facilitated by an impartial representative who has no vested interest in the outcome of the drawing. In the event that the random lottery process is used to determine enrollment, names will continue to be drawn after all available spaces have been filled in order to form an enrollment waiting list.

WAITING LIST: The waiting list refers to the document identifying the names of grade eligible students with applications to the charter school pending acceptance for the subsequent school year, based upon the order of random selection from the lottery following a recruitment period. The enrollment waiting list will be divided into two groups: resident and non-resident students with priority enrollment belonging to resident waiting list students. Parents/guardians not present at the lottery drawing will be notified of their child’s placement on the waiting list and that their child’s placement on the list expires at the close of the school year for which they were applying. The purpose of the waiting list is to make equitable the opportunity for admission to the CJCPCS. In the event that a student chosen from the lottery drawing is unable or unwilling to attend, available spaces will be filled from students chosen off the waiting list in the order of their placement on the list, with priority enrollment offered to resident waiting list students. Once a child is admitted as a student at the CJCPCS, his/her enrollment is guaranteed through each grade level, provided that enrollment is continuous from year to year. If the student withdraws from the school, thus breaking the cycle of continuous enrollment, he/she would have to reapply during the initial recruitment period and be subject to the policies and procedures of admission anew. Siblings of already enrolled resident students are given first priority for admission.

EVALUATING CRITERIA FOR ENROLLMENT: Students applying for enrollment will be evaluated for enrollment based on the following criteria: Proof of district: Proof of district registration must be returned with the admission application for any student transferring from a private school or who is newly relocated to the school districts and not currently registered as a district student. The purpose of this is to help determine proof of residency/non-residency status as it pertains to the priority enrollment for resident students and enrollment waiting list status; Siblings: Parents applying for admission for more than one child must fill out a separate admission application for each child to help determine priority of sibling enrollment as it pertains to admission and waiting list status; School records: School records from previously-attended schools that will serve to verify the grade level placement that the student is applying for, or should be assigned to, based on recommendations from school officials where the student is currently enrolled.
